As with all good parties, this one got started early. The Town of Enfield delivered numerous truckloads of wood chips by Wednesday for the picnic and other areas. Also during the week Daniel Bergamini and Ryan Gallien picked up the Youth team gun safe at the Barn Store and delivered it to the Clubhouse. With the help of Ken May and Scott Thompson, they muscled it into the Clubhouse. John Downing kicked off the weekend on Friday night and started moving woodchips with his tractor. He was back early Saturday morning to continue and with the help of Dennis Harper and Valerie Martin moved a lot of firewood up the Clubhouse area. They along with Dave Stewart and Brian Cavanaugh cleared trees and brush at various locations. John Barnes arrived with his chainsaw and took out some scraggly trees. We all kept busy with that for a while, moving debris and raking.
All the time that was happening, Arnie Koch, Chief carpenter, was constructing the shed with help from Doug Demers and later Valerie Martin, and Dennis Harper. John Downing continued moving and raking chips into the picnic area, and the 100yd position area. He also cleared the spot where the woodshed will be.
On Sunday construction continued on the shed with Arnie heading it up with help from Zac Dworak. Harry Trumbull arrived with a mission to assemble the Youth team storage cabinet and with some help from the President and Zac got it done.
Tom Bircher arrived with his awesome chainsaw and took out the trees that were endangering the new shed. Nice job of dropping them in a safe place. John Downing was back for a third day and helped out with that also. Tom bucked up a load of firewood, most notably a huge beech that had blown down. With that the firewood supply is looking good.
Tim Sample came by to check on us and declared the weekend a success. On the verge of having his knees replaced, we still had the benefit of his advice and consul.
As Arnie and Zac continued on the shed, the President made a trip to Home depot and picked up roofing material and arrived in time to be installed by our builders. By day's end we had a new shed. Well done Arnie &Co. Harry who had left earlier returned and with Steve Merchant and the President raked chips off the grass for the duration of the afternoon. Harry left with a truckload of trash and with that the Club looked a darn sight better than when we arrived on Friday.
At the time of this report, May 7th, the work on the driveway has been started by Steve Patten and should be completed this week. Steve Patten will also re-dig the drainage ditch on the right side of the range. Ditching material from there and and the driveway will be deposited on the left wing of the berm to begin extending it.
Other work remains to be done of course, but we are off to a good start this year already. Members have committed to other tasks already such as exterior lighting and building shooting benches.
Any members who would like to donate some time can contact the President for more info or come to a meeting where the discussion is ongoing.
I would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all the members who came to the work party or give their time on other occasions. It is the members who make the EOC what it is.
