April 2011 Newsletter PDF Print

I hope everybody had a winter full of doing all your favorite winter sports.  However it is officially spring and the season is sure to move quickly as the warmer months do in these parts. First, I'd like to remind members to get their renewals in by April 13th meeting as we will be locking the gate for the summer and there will be a combination lock installed. The sooner your dues are in the better. Summer is a busy time for everybody, including the officers of the club who are responsible for taking care of business.

For those who haven’t visited recently, last year saw the berm rebuilt and a waterline was installed to the clubhouse. The plumbing needs to be completed on the waterline and funds have been approved to do so. A picnic/meeting area is being cleared and picnic tables are needed. Also, covered shooting positions are planned as well as a storage shed. Lumber has been donated for these projects. New signage is on the way designating Enfield Outing Club Est. 1934. We'd like to clean the place up and it seems members are stepping up to the task.

I think one of the best things going on is the youth shooting team. This is a two part team comprised of .22 and air rifle for youth 8-18 (10-18 for .22 rifles). This is a great way to fulfill our Charter mission of "promoting leisure and competitive shooting sports". What better way than to support our youth?  The Team, under the directorship of Ken May, Scott Thompson and Roy Holland, are now seeking Club members and their families who are interested in joining the Team. If you have an interested youth in your family let one of the Directors or the President know.  After April 30th we will open it up to the public.

All members are encouraged to attend the April 13th Club meeting. We will be officially receiving the donation of several used match grade .22's that have been beautifully restored by Bill Fisher at the Ruger plant. The President of Ruger Firarms, Tom Sullivan will be at the meeting along with Bill Fisher. Please come and thank Bill for the hours of work he put into restoring these rifles and Tom Sullivan for his generosity in lending the time on his machinery to do the work. This is an incredible gift to the Enfield Outing Club and deserves a Big Thank You!! This would be an excellent time to bring any youth who may be interested in the Team.

The next event I would like to encourage members to participate in is the July 2nd 250th Anniversary of the Founding of Enfield. So far we are planning an open house, an antique to present firearms display and Revolutionary cannon demonstrations provided by Capt. Morrill's Company. If you have an idea, bring it forward.

The Enfield Outing Club is poised to have a busy and productive year. There are improvement projects to be finished and new ones to begin.  Keep an eye on the website for updates.
